The Weapon Of Mass Destruction

Feature Article The Weapon Of Mass Destruction
FEB 3, 2023 LISTEN

Nuclear weapons are the most lethal, inhumane, and indiscriminate weapons ever devised. They are unlike any other weapons in terms of the scale of devastation they cause, as well as their uniquely persistent, spreading, genetically damaging radioactive fallout. The most lethal weapons on earth are nuclear ones. It is possible to destroy a city, which might result in the death of millions of people and endanger the environment and the lives of future generations due to its long-lasting devastating effects. These weapons' very existence makes them dangerous. Despite the fact that nuclear weapons have only ever been used in combat twice—in the 1945 bombs of Hiroshima and Nagasaki—approximately 13,400 nuclear warheads are supposedly still in existence today, and more than 2,000 nuclear tests have been carried out. The best defense against such threats is disarmament, but achieving this objective has proven to be a very challenging task.

Millions of people could be killed by a single nuclear bomb detonated over a major city. The use of tens or hundreds of nuclear bombs would cause global climate disruption and widespread famine. Ionizing radiation from nuclear weapons kills or sickens those who are exposed to it, pollutes the environment, and has long-term health consequences such as cancer and genetic damage. In a nuclear famine, less than 1% of the world's nuclear weapons could disrupt the global climate and threaten up to two billion people with starvation. The United States and Russia have thousands of nuclear weapons that could cause a nuclear winter, destroying the essential ecosystems on which all life depends.

Doctors and emergency personnel would not be able to operate in radioactively contaminated, devastated places. Even a single nuclear explosion in a modern city would overwhelm any disaster relief system we could create in preparation, and a nuclear war would overrun all available resources. A nuclear war's population displacement would result in a refugee catastrophe that would be orders of magnitude worse than anything we have ever seen.

These weapons are capable of ending the history of humankind with a single press of a red button. Every living creature will be wiped-out of the globe and there will be nothing left of our planet.

HOW NUCLEAR WEAPONS ARE MADE.
Nuclear weapons are devices that are intended to unleash energy in an explosive way because of nuclear fusion, nuclear fission, or both. Atomic bombs are a frequent name for fission weapons. Fusion weapons are sometimes known as thermonuclear bombs or, more frequently, hydrogen bombs; they are typically characterized as nuclear weapons in which nuclear fusion is responsible for the release of at least some of the energy. Nuclear fission is the process by which specific isotopes of uranium, plutonium, and some other heavy elements divide into atoms of lighter elements when attacked by neutrons. In addition to the production of lighter atoms, the fission process typically results in the release of 2.5 to 3 free neutrons along with significant amounts of energy. As a rule, 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds) of uranium or plutonium will completely fission to release 17.5 kilotons of explosive energy, which is about equivalent to TNT. A small number of neutrons are first given enough energy to collide with a few fissionable nuclei in an atomic bomb or nuclear reactor, which then releases more free neutrons. These neutrons split into three groups: those that exit the material without being captured, those that trigger more fissions, and a small amount that is captured by nuclei that do not fission. Only a small percentage of heavy atomic nuclei are fissile, or capable of splitting not only by fast (very powerful) neutrons but also by slow neutrons. A fission chain reaction is a continuous process wherein neutrons released by fissioning nuclei cause fissions in other fissile or fissionable nuclei. If the amount of neutrons in one generation equals the number of fissions in that generation, in an atomic bomb or nuclear reactor, a limited number of neutrons are first given enough energy to collide with a few fissionable nuclei, which then releases more free neutrons. Three types of neutrons result from this splitting: those that leave the material uncaptured, those that cause additional fissions, and a small portion that is taken in by nuclei that do not fission. Only a small portion of heavy atomic nuclei are fissile, or able to split by both slow neutrons and fast (extremely powerful) neutrons. In a fission chain reaction, neutrons released by fissioning nuclei spark fissions in additional fissile or fissionable nuclei. If the number of fissions in a generation is equal to the amount of neutrons in that

The explosive energy produced by nuclear weapons is immense. By using the terms kiloton (1,000 tons) and megaton (1,000,000,000 tons) to compare their blast energy to that of the common chemical explosive TNT, their significance can best be understood. For instance, although having just roughly 64 kg (140 pounds) of highly enriched uranium, the 1945 atomic bomb unleashed on Hiroshima, Japan, released energy equivalent to about 15 kilotons of chemical explosive. That explosion immediately produced all ionizing radiation, a powerful shock wave, and a ton of heat. The mushroom-shaped cloud that has come to symbolize nuclear explosions was generated when convection currents brought dust and other debris into the air because of the explosion. Additionally, winds carried radioactive debris high into the atmosphere, where it ultimately fell to Earth as nuclear fallout. The devastation, casualties, illnesses, and injuries caused by the explosions in Nagasaki and Hiroshima, which occurred three days apart, were on a scale unmatched by any other weapon in history. Nuclear weapons are threat to any living creature on this planet. Incase there’s a nuclear war, t every living creatures will be wipeout, of which humanity will sand no chance and humanity reign on earth will cease to exist. Humanity will go back into ‘stone age ‘and there will be no winners.
