President J. A. Kufuor spent the first day of the New Year receiving a cross-section of Ghanaians at his private residence in Accra.

Among the numerous visitors who paid seasonal compliments to the Present were Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the newly-elected flag bearer of the New Patriotic party (NPP), a delegation of chiefs from the Ahanta Traditional Area in the Western Region, Ministers of State and children.

Two acclaimed choral groups - the Winneba Youth Choir and the Calvary Methodist Junior Choir - provided captivating choral music to entertain the President and his visitors.  President Kufuor, wearing a long sleeved African print shirt, accompanied by his wife, Theresa, as well as Nana Akufo Addo and his wife, Rebbeca, went round to exchange greetings with the visitors.

The President and his wife were later treated to some popular Ghanaian gospel tunes.  According to the choir master of the Winneba Youth Choir, Paa John Yamoah, it was an annual obligation for the choir to perform for the delight of the President, who was the chief patron of the choir.

He said even before the President became the Number one gentleman of the land, he used to attend functions on special occasions organised by the late Vice President Kow Arkaah, who founded the choir.
