The Ghana Energy Awards Scheme has named the Institute of Industrial Research(IIR) of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research(CSIR) as the most Energy Efficient Public organization in the country for the year 2018.

This was announced during this years annual Ghana Energy Awards event which was held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra last month.

According to organizers of the prestigious awards for the energy sector industry players in the country, the IIR's efforts and commitments to energy efficiency and sustainability in the country during the year under review is highly commendable and worth recognition.

The Institute of Industrial Research was among 29 individuals, private and public institutions and organizations whose contributions to the country's energy sector this year caught the attention of the awarding organization.

According to a five member jury which vetted the various nominations, the CSIR- IIR's energy efficiency initiatives for the year was far ahead of it's sister organizations such as the Minister of Energy, the Energy Commission and the Local Government.

The CSIR -IIR, under the Directorship of Dr. Francis Boateng Agyenim, with support and cooperation of Board of Directors, Chaired by Mr Jacob Osei Yeboah(JOY) embarked on a number of key energy efficiency and sustainability programs and projects during the year in retrospect.

Notable among them is a research project that paved way for electronic equipment such as fridges and freezers to be labelled according to brand's energy consumption efficiency by the Energy Commission.

During the year under review, the Institute trained 1600 electrical wiring professionals across the ten regions of the country in solar panel installation and maintenance.

The Institute was also able to successfully establish a clean cook stove testing center to test for fuel efficiency and environmentally friendly cook stoves for use in domestic home.

The Institute during the year under review was able to introduce residential, institutional and Industrial Energy Audit in the country among many other initiatives.

Dr. Francis Boateng Agyenim who received the award on behalf of the institute commended his staff for their hard work, commitment and dedication to duty that has put the institute on such an enviable position and urged them to continue the good works.

He pointed out that the renewable energy sector has a lot of prospects for the country's socio-economic and industrial growth and progress.

He urged the youth to take advantage of emerging technology in the renewable energy sector to create wealth for themselves while contributing to the country's energy demand.
