Feed On Quality Information That Provides Knowledge For Quality Life - Sophia Akuffo Urges Youth
17.12.2018 LISTEN

Chief Justice, Mrs Sophia Akuffo, has called on the youth to feed on information that provided knowledge for quality life and not what would have their future distracted.

She said the new age of information with the internet and social media at the fore, promoted immorality, and drug abuse, thus the need for the youth to be guided by wisdom and insight to sift out negative information.

Mrs Akuffo said this when she held a special mentoring session in Ho for students from selected schools in the Volta Region on the theme: 'I Pledge Myself to the Service of Ghana.'

She asked the students to 'make optimal use of internet and all other opportunities of modern technology. Technology must work for you, not you working for technology."

The Chief Justice said the youth needed to be guided to harness technology to enhance nation building, and also to steer its benefits to accomplish their God given purpose.

She said the youth must set their life goals early, and singled out education as central to preparations towards service to Ghana, therefore students must 'begin to assume responsibility and be known for good quality values at school'.?

Mrs Akuffo also reminded teachers, and also traditional leaders of their roles in inculcating communal spirit, kindness, mutual love, and respect in children.?

Dr Naomi Apea, the Medical Officer in charge of Judicial Service Clinic, advised the students not to lose their career paths to their immediate circumstances.

She shared personal experiences with the students, and asked them to do away with both internal and external distractions, whilst striving towards excellence in education. ?

Mr Kenneth Kponor, Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education said the youth must always allow themselves to be guided, and advised them to take advantage of the school system to become responsible citizens.

He lamented the use of mobile phones in schools, which he said had become major distractions for students, affecting their moral upbringing.

Present at the programme were students from Adaklu Senior High School, Agortime Ziope Senior High, Klefe Achatime E.P. Basic School, and the Taviefe Aviefe R.C. Basic School among others.

The schools were presented with certificates of participation.
