Wenchi Municipal Assembly Gets PM

Members of the Wenchi Municipal Assembly in the Brong Ahafo have elected Samuel Mensah as their Presiding Member (PM) in a keenly contested election on Tuesday at its general meeting at Wenchi.

At the end of voting, Mr. Mensah obtained 20 votes to beat his closest contender Gyasi Emmanuel who had 16 votes.

The incumbent PM and closest contender, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo managed to obtain ten votes.

In his acceptance speech, Samuel Mensah commended his colleagues for the confidence reposed in him and called for unity to ensure accelerated development in the municipality.

He appealed to the assembly members to be professional and dedicated to their work.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Dr Prince Kwakye Afriyie, in an address congratulated the PM and appealed to assembly members to collaborate to foster unity and peace to promote the development of the area.

He mentioned the construction of solar-powered mechanised boreholes at Nwoase, Nchiraa SHS, and the Wenchi Health Centre as projects to bring relief to residents as well as enable the country to achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs).

On agriculture, Dr. Kwakye Afriyie disclosed the assembly had procured and distributed 10,000 cashew seedlings to farmers under the 1million per constituency fund.

“To make Wenchi a business centre and a gateway to investors, the assembly has reactivated the construction of the 10km town roads to beautify and facilitate the movement of goods and services”, he stressed.

He commended the Member of Parliament for the area, George Gyan Baffour for the healthy partnership and collaboration with the assembly and charged residents and donors agencies to emulate the good leadership of the MP.
