A Week Of Mixed Feelings!

A Week Of Mixed Feelings!
19.02.2018 LISTEN

“People who gossip the most have the least”—T.D. Jakes

The past week was indeed very pregnant. It gave birth to many events- some happy and others sad. It was a week of mixed feelings.

It is more than a week now since the undisputed Queen of Dancehall in Ghana joined her ancestors in Samanfoland, yet the wounds in our hearts show no sign of healing. Some have been so affected that they are yet to come to terms with the reality.

But it is refreshing to see many gradually moving from the stages of shock and denial to the acceptance stage. Even the mother of the deceased has finally accepted the reality.

Since the sudden demise of the great songstress, many have visited her father's residence to condole with the family for the great loss. Almost all who visited so far have been sensitive to the situation the family finds itself in, except one. And who else could that be if not the so-called callous counsellor who responds to the name Lutterodt?

Frankly, I refuse to recognize him as a counsellor because a well-trained counselor will not be as reckless and insensitive as he is. I would never consult him for professional advice, even if he was the only counsellor alive. I, therefore, pity his clients- if indeed he has any.

I advertised a mouth-agape look as I watched him on video vomiting pure gibberish to the bereaved family. He literally blamed Ebony's family for her so-called “bad girl” ways.

How I was livid! I'm not a violent person. But, for once, I wish I could penetrate the screen of my phone to physically shut his big mouth and stop him from vomiting more foul words.

I'm not a fan of Afia Schwarzenegger. Indeed, I do not see eye to eye with her on many issues. But this time, I perfectly agree with her outburst when she visited the bereaved family. She impressed upon the family to take steps to redeem their daughter's name, which has been dented by so-called counsellors and prophets.

I fully support Afia's call on the family to seek legal redress to clear their daughter's name. Obviously, the reckless prophecies and raking of wounds would continue if not checked now. We eagerly await the family's action, as the father has promised, after the funeral.

Last Friday marked Ebony's 21st birthday and her record label released a beautiful song to mark the day. Undoubtedly, “Konkonsa Police” is another banger from the songstress. As if she knew she would be gone before the song would be released, her lyrics admonished her compatriots to stop the gossip because she was only doing her own thing.

I was at St. Martins De-Porres School to observe Ebony's one week celebration. Oh yes, you did not see me on your screen because I was just a small fish among big fishes in the pond. The scene was just electrifying. The outpouring of grief and the numerous testimonies about Ebony's good heart could move even the devil himself. I'm one who rarely shed tears, but this time I could not stop the tears from flowing.

After weeks of waiting, the vetting of the Chief Citizen Vigilante came off last Tuesday. The man's courage, honesty and forthrightness increased my admiration for him. At the end of the whole exercise, he left little doubt in many minds that he was the right man for the job.

Of course, some members of the Appointments Committee tried to use their privileged position to settle personal scores. But trust the Chief Citizen Vigilante to cut the “sharp-teethed” babies to size. What impressed me most was his zeal and commitment to reducing corruption to the barest minimum. His determination to focus more on retrieving looted cowries than incarceration, is very commendable, to say the least.

While we eagerly await the plenary of the House of Honourables to unanimously approve him, we hope the looters will accept the olive branch and return the looted cowries before the Chief Citizen Vigilante starts roaring. Otherwise, it will be “butu-butu”.

The 40 days prayer service for Alhaji Bature also took place in the week under review. Just like the burial service, Yours truly was there. The solemn ceremony was livened up by the arrival of Hon. Kennedy  Agyapong, his Tuesday co-panelist on Adom TV's Badwam show. The ceremony once again reminded us that the journey to Samanfoland was inevitable.

We pray for the souls of Ebony and Alhaji to have peace with their Maker.

See you next week for another interesting konkonsa, Deo volente!
