A law student at Kings University College and communication member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Mahama Socrates Samuel , has stated that the party is working hard to ensure only NDC members get registered in their reorganization process.

The NDC after losing the 2016 general election scraped its biometric register which was bedeviled with errors. It was alleged that some parliamentary aspirants bloated the register with non- NDC members in a bid to win the party’s primary.

Speaking on AF FM, an online radio platform in Accra, Mr. Socrates believes registration of non – NDC members onto the biometric register contributed to the defeat of the party.

“NDC will be very careful this time round not to register NPP sympathizers as members. The party is putting in place strong structures at the grassroots level to ensure only NDC members get registered. I believe NPP sympathizes on our register contributed to our defeat in the 2016 elections because they influence in electing wrong candidates for the party and I can say on authority that such mistakes will not be repeated again” he said.

Mr. Mahama Socrates Samuel thinks strong grassroots organization will bring back the NDC to power in 2020.

“Strong grassroots will determine the further of NDC. I will like to appeal to all party members to go back to the base to work for the victory of the NDC”.

Touching on the internal contest of the NDC, the deputy communications officer hopeful said it is refreshing to note that a lot of people are showing interest to contest for flagbearership Position of the party and that it demonstrate the nature of the NDC.

“It is very good for the party that a lot of people are showing interest to lead the party. All party member will get the chance to choose who ever leads us because anytime a leader is imposed on us we tend to loss the elections”

So far, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Prof. Joshua Alabi; a former Chief Executive of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Mr. Sylvester Mensah, the long-serving MP for Nadowli-Kaleo, Mr Alban Kingsford Bagbin, Former Trade Minister, Dr. Ekow Spio Garbrah have shown interest in leading the NDC into the 2020 elections.

Though he is yet to publicly declare his intention, former president mahama will contest for the NDC flagbearership slot to lead the party again after an abysmal performance at the 2016 poll.

According to Mr. Socrates, the interest shown by the party bigwigs to lead the party is a good sign of a rejuvenated party ready to recapture power.

He, therefore, appealed to all potential aspirant to work in unity for the victory of the NDC in 2020
