Let's Deepen NDC's Woes And Consign Them To Opposition Forever
01.04.2017 LISTEN

It is an undeniable fact that, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is going through a very difficult moment. The attitude of most of their supporters, including their Members of Parliament (MPs) leaves much to be desired. Sitting afar, one could see that, things have really fallen apart and it is a clear indication of the NDC's unpreparedness to taste opposition life beyond Election 2016.

Interestingly, whilst some of their MPs - Ayariga, Suhuyini, Ablakwa have turned into pathological liars in Parliament, the brother of the late leader of the NDC, Dr. Cadman Mills, continues to spill the beans on Prof. Mills's death to the public. Besides, the Committee set up by the NDC to look into the Party's gargantuan defeat in the 2016 general elections is finding it difficult to contain the outbursts of disgruntled supporters.

Again, the confusion has been fuelled by the pro-Mahama group agitating for the comeback of the most corrupt, wicked and incompetent former president of our time. As to what they want this John Mahama, the "dead goat", to come and do in 2020 as an ex-president, it is a mystery for his cronies to unravel.

Indeed, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been in power for less than three months and as we all know, the Party is seriously putting things together for a smooth take off of the economy. So, the question is; now that policies like the free SHS, One District - One Factory, Planting for Food and Jobs, Zongo Fund etc are about to be rolled out, what would be the fate and state of the NDC in the subsequent years?

It is an open secret that, the Special Prosecutor would start work soon. The Nsawam Prison will be expanded; the rule of law will strictly be enforced; and those who milked the state in the last eight years are likely to be sent to their approximate homes. What would be the state of the NDC, if I may ask?

For me, I see Ghana turning into a one party state under President Nana Akufo-Addo and one does not need a rocket scientist to predict something the first president of Ghana envisaged in the 1960s. Whilst the late President Nkrumah tried to use the Preventive Detention Act (PDA) to turn Ghana into a One Party State, Nana Akufo-Addo would use the best alternative, that is, good governance to make it possible.

There is a popular saying that; "Kwasiada bɛyɛ dɛ a, ɛfiri Memeneda annwumerɛ". The last two months into the new NPP administration has witnessed the appointment of experienced personnel; a significant reduction of some taxes and policy rate; increase in public sector wages including allowances for National Service Personnel; stable energy supply and relatively stable currency.

It is my hope that the current government appointees would work harder in humility, selflessness and respect in order to confine the NDC into perpetual opposition like the CPP. Ghanaians are not ready for a comeback of a party that wasted 27 years of Ghana's political independence.

Let's all help to deepen the woes of the confused and corrupt NDC so that, their dream of staging a comeback would be a mirage.
