The sorting and counting of ballot papers has begun in some of the 28, 992 polling stations nationwide after polls closed at 5pm.

15, 712, 499 registered voters were expected to troop to the polls at 7 am today Wednesday and as expected, thousands of them are still  in queues awaiting the chance to exercise their franchise.

The polling stations without voters at the close of polls however begun the counting process minutes after polls closed.

Only one constituency, Jaman North, has not seen single ballot cast following a disagreement over the voter transfer list which the National Democratic Congress (NDC) claimed was bloated by over 30 names .

After the counting at the polling stations, the figures will be recorded on the ‘pink’ sheets to be taken to the constituency collation centres for collation and eventual declaration of results.

Aside the 275 constituencies been contested for by the 1,158 candidates, seven candidates including the incumbent John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the presidential candidate of the largest opposition party, New Patriotic Party, (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo,  will contest the presidential polls.

Also contesting in the presidential elections are the flagbearers of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Dr. Edward Mahama, the National Democratic Party (NDP), Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings and the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom.

Jacob Osei Yeboah, who also contested the polls in 2012 is the only independent candidate in the race.
