Twenty selected semi-finalists of the Write-Away contest will tomorrow [Saturday, October 22] converge at the forecourt of Citi FM in Accra to defend their entries.
Their entries were shortlisted from several others submitted by children aged between 10 and 14 for this year's contest.
The pupils were offered the opportunity to write their own stories ending with the phrase: “Fortune Favours the Bold”, with their own fictional characters in not less than 600 words.
T20 contestants with the best application will be shortlisted to contest in the grande finale by a panel of judges after an interview.
Citi FM's Head of Events, Jessica Opare Saforo said “all the essays that we received this year were good essays but unfortunately we had to find a way of separating the good from the best.”
The Write Away Contest seeks to birth the desire of children in Ghana for writing and reading.
This year's contest, which is the 11th edition will see the top five contestants awarded cash prizes.
The overall winner of the 2016 Write-Away contest will be presented with a cash prize of GHc5,000. The preceding four, will be awarded GHc4,000, GHc3,000, GHc2,000 and GHc1,000 respectively.
Each of the top 20 winners will be given GHc500.
This year's contest is sponsored by Moneygram and the Student Loan Trust Fund.
