Peaceful elections emphasise Ghana's political maturity - GIMPA

By GNA

Accra, Dec 10, GNA - The Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) on Friday said the orderliness and peaceful manner in which the just ended elections were conducted demonstrated political maturity of Ghanaians.

"They also showed their desire to manage their own affairs in a conducive atmosphere when given the chance, contrary to the fears and doubts expressed by some groups that Election Day would be marked by intimidation and rioting," a statement signed by Professor Stephen Adei, Rector and Director-General of GIMPA said.

It said in an effort to support democratic governance in Ghana, the Institute sent its representatives as observers to all the 10 regions of the country to observe the elections.

The statement said reports from these representatives who were at the various constituencies indicated that, apart from minor irregularities such as late arrival of voting materials and late starting of voting, the elections were free and fair.

"It is anticipated that the way of holding peaceful election would continue and be sustained in our democratisation process'.
