Tamale, Sept. 01, GNA - Voting begun earnestly in some polling stations, while a few were still waiting for their electoral materials to, commence the exercise.

Some of the centres the GNA visited included Kalpohine, Sakasaka quarters, T.I Ahmadiyya Basic A and B, SDA School, Ambariya Basic School and Lamakara T.I Ahmadiyya. Some polling stations in the Tamale Metropolis between 7:00 am and 8:30 am, observed that voters had queued waiting to cast their ballots, while agents of the various candidates were also present.

Mr Abu-Bakr Alhassan, a voter at the SDA polling station told the GNA that he arrived at the centre early to be able to vote on time to enable him to go to work. He suggested that government should declare the Assembly Election Day a holiday to enable all electorate to partake.

'Some of my co-tenants will not participate because they go to work early and close after 5:00 pm by which time voting would have ended,' he said.

At 08:10 hours when the GNA got to the Lamakara T.I Ahmadiyya polling centre, voting had not started as officials were still awaiting the arrival of other electoral materials to start.

Mr Samuel Walter, a Verification Officer, said they had contacted officials at the EC and were told the materials were on their way.

Meanwhile, the verification machine captured all the electorates at the centres the GNA visited. Security personnel and election observers were also present.
