
Atua(E/R), May 12, GNA - The MTN Foundation has constructed an accident and emergency centre for the Atua Government Hospital at Atua in the Lower Manya Krobo District.
The facility has various sets of theatre equipment, and other ancillaries needed to provide necessary emergency care to patients.
Handing over the facility, Mrs Cynthia Lumor, the Corporate Services Executive for MTN, said the facility was constructed at a cost of 200,000 to help ease some of the major health challenges facing the area.
She said, the MTN Foundation would not renege on its efforts to provide health, education and economic empowerment to the people of Ghana.
Mrs Lumor disclosed that, the foundation had invested Gh¢14,000,000 in various projects in the Eastern Region.
Dr McDamien Dedzo, the Eastern Regional Director of Health Services, expressed appreciation to the MTN for its continuous support in improving the health sector in the region.
Dr Dedzo said, his outfit is collaborating with the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing and other bodies to ensure the provision of staff accommodation in the region.
He called on health officers to re-examine their role in improving healthcare delivery, especially in the area of maternal healthcare and child survival.
Dr Dedzo cautioned against unethical behaviours that drive away patients from visiting the hospital, and urged the health officers to help restore public confidence in the health sector.
Mrs Irena Offei, Municipal Health Director for Lower Manya Krobo, pledged to ensure that the accident and emergency centre is used to improve health services in the district.
Dr Alexander Osei-Bonsu, Medical Superintendent of the Atua Government Hospital, commended MTN Foundation for the timely intervention to help improve on the responsiveness of the hospital to emergency situations.
He pledged his outfit's commitment to ensure that accident-related deaths are reduced drastically in that area.
