The Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joe Ghartey, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Essikado-Ketan, has called on the family of the late Professor A.P.K Kludze at his residence at Hohoe in the Volta Region to commiserate with them on the passing away of the learned professor.

Accompanying Mr Ghartey, a former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice were some Volta regional and constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from the Hohoe North constituency.

Mr Ghartey described Professor Kludze as a true legal luminary and recalled that the last time he met the Professor was when he was the keynote speaker for the inaugural B J da Rocha Memorial Lectures and Professor Kludze was the chairperson.

The first port of call was the palace of the divisional chief of Gbi-Kpeme, Togbe Wordge IV and his elders.

Introducing the MP to Togbe Wordze, the spokesman of Amegadze Royal Family, Augustine Agbenya, a founding member of the NPP at Hohoe, described Joe Ghartey as an affable and down-to-earth person, who has never lost touch with his roots.

The spokesman further stated that 'Hon. Joe Ghartey, together with Raphael Egbenunya, Mr. Phillip Kludze and myself founded the NPP in Hohoe.

He revealed that Mr Ghartey was no stranger to Hohoe as he actually spent part of his adult life in the township.

According to Phillip Kludze, when Joe Ghartey was a student at the University of Ghana, he spent his vacations in Hohoe and even when he became a lawyer he continued to visit.

'I actually shared a room with Hon. Joe Ghartey in Hohoe,' he added.

On his part, Togbe Wordze expressed his appreciation to Mr Ghartey for mourning with the family of Prof. Kludze and the people of Hohoe in general and gave him his blessing in all his future endeavours.

The chief and his elders appointed Yaovi Emmanuel Darkey, the elder head of the clan of the divisional chief of Gbi-Kpeme as a 'Godfather' to Mr Ghartey to further strengthen the ties between the MP and the people of Hohoe.
