The Foundation for Youth Peace and Development (FYPD) wishes to applaud Mr. Richard Paa Kofi Botchway for this Great achievement.

The writing of a book and of course a good one like, 'The Tale of an Orphan' and more importantly, by a person who has seen and lived it all, as far as the difficulties that socially disadvantaged persons especially orphans, the aged and the physically challenged go through in order to attain their aspirations of life and enjoy a respectable life is indeed a great achievement that should be acknowledged by all well meaning people.

It is our hope that this achievement by Mr. Botchwey will send the message to other socially disadvantaged people, particularly the young ones, that irrespective of the circumstances in which one finds himself, he can still rise to places of importance in society. We believe that what matters is for one to have confidence in himself and pursue his ambitions with discipline, hard work and dedication.

We bemoan the fast rate at which the extended family system which provides support for the socially disadvantaged is disappearing ,the unbelievable rate at which the youth of Ghana have become self-centered and individualistic in the pursuit of life and the extent to which the foremost institutions of the state, as far as maintaining social order is concerned, such as the Department of Social Welfare, The National Youth Authority and the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection are under resourced.

These trends and state of affairs have resulted in the worsening of the plight of orphans etc and in this regard, we will like to call on The Government, Civil Society and the Good people of Ghana to do more to support the socially disadvantaged in our society.

Once again we say congratulations to Mr. Botchwey.
