The Management and staff of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) have heard with dismay a Radio reportage on an Accra Based station (Joy Fm) on Monday 11th March 2013. In which the Ex- Minister of Tourism – Akua Sena Dansua has made sweeping and wild allegations of massive and deep seated corruption as well as inefficiencies at the GTA with respect to its operations and the collection of the 1% Tourism Levy.
We by this statement debunk all those allegations made against the Authority and state emphatically that according to the Tourism Act 817 of 2011 (section 3(e)) the GTA is mandated as the sole organization to “oversee the administration of the Tourism Development Fund and ensure that the Fund is used for the required purposes”. For that matter the outsourcing of the Tourism Levy collection to any third party is considered illegal and in violation of Act 817.
The GTA will at the appropriate time issue a detailed response those allegations.
