Is the NPP systematically deceiving Ghanaians?

Is the NPP systematically deceiving Ghanaians?

When I saw the full list of the 2012 presidential result on Ghana's Electoral Commission's website, I asked myself one questions; Is the NPP systematically deceiving Ghanaians and the world?

I will explain why I asked this question.
Before the EC declared the presidential results, the NPP appeared to know the full result will be in their favour. NPP suporters have been asked to get themselves ready for celebration because the NPP will win the election. Anyway, this was condemned by the Peace council.

Meanwhile, all media stations through whom I followed the result as they were churned out reported figures that put the NDC ahead of the NPP except Oman fm – owned by NPP's Kennedy Agyapong. To Oman fm, NPP was winning the election with some 51% of valid votes cast.

The EC had told Ghanaians it will declare result 72 hours after the election. This was said because at the time, we all least expected that the verification machines were going to tell us that they were tied of verifying voters and that elections should enter an unprecedented second day of votting. When the election entered the second day, some of us thought the 72 hours would be referenced to Saturday and not Friday. But the EC decided to declare result since it had finished collating all results.

Then the NPP popped up, claiming some figures were not consistent with what they had received and so the results should not be declared until all concerns were addressed. By this time NPP supporters had gathered at the EC throwing an uneasy calm into the atmosphere. The result was declared anyway and NDC's Candidate was declared winner with some 300 thousand votes.

The NPP then said they will not accept the result because there has been systematic rigging by NDC aided by some EC Officials at collation centers. Examples were cited by NPP's Chairman, Mr Obestebi-Lamptey at a press conference. I will draw your attention to three.

Example 1: Mr Obestebi-Lamptey told the media that in the Savelugu Constituency, candidate John Mahama of the NDC polled 21,165 votes according to the EC at the collation centre, however 31, 165 votes had allegedly been falsely declared for him.

According to the result published by the EC, 21,165 votes was declared for NDC and not 31,165.

Can the EC publish 21, 165 votes and use 31,165 votes for its subsequent computations when NPP representatives have been told earlier 'all die be die' which I wish to interpret as 'all vote be votes'? Can the EC publish 21,165 and yet go ahead to use 31,165 when it knows we all have calculators? You may answer me?

Example 2: Mr Obestebi-Lamptey said “For example, Peace FM and Joy FM have both announced 10,000 more votes for John Mahama, the NDC Presidential Candidates, than what was declared for him at the Ledzokuku collation centre, giving him 63,210 (60.53 per cent), instead of 53,210”,

According to the result published by the EC, the NDC polled 53,710 votes and not 63,210.

Example 3: The NPP Chairman again said for Berekum West, Joy FM gave the NDC presidential candidate 7,750 and the NPP presidential candidate, 10,189, but the EC's own results on its website, stated 9,091 for the NDC and 6,236 for the NPP.

According to the result published by the EC, NPP had 10,189 while the NDC had 7,750 as reported by Joy FM. On which website did Mr Obestebi-Lamptey and the NPP read their figures?

What I have learnt in the past few days is that the NPP is systematically deceiving all of us to think that they have won the election and that they have not been treated fairly.

The only time in our history that the NPP have said they EC has been fair to them was when they won elections. This speaks volumes of the character of NPP.

There are two things I wish that they note; they are dragging their own reputation through the mud, they are telling the world who they really are.
