Ms Eva Naa Merley, popularly known as Eva Lokko who was outdoored Wednesday as the Vice Presidential candidate of the Progressive People's Party (PPP) has said she makes a perfect pair with the party's flagbearer.

Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, flagbearer of the PPP, outdoored her after the party Tuesday night held a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at which they reached a unanimous consensus on her as the choice of running mate.

The Broadcast Engineer told Election Headquarters on Joy FM shortly after her outdooring that her decision to venture into politics was not “just a decision to jump [into it], it was a slow process,” and that, “it wasn't a strange thing.”

She pledged to “bring all my experience to bear, to make Ghana a very good country where people will want to live in and people will want to come to because we have everything that it takes to be one of the greatest countries in this world today.”

Asked what she was bringing to the ticket, the former Director-General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), said her prime focus was to cover areas that have not been covered by Nduom and also “overlap where we have the strength,” to romp in votes for the PPP.

The main concern for the PPP, she added, is “to ensure that Ghana is going into sustainable development and not going ahead in bits and pieces and I think we make a good pair.”

Eva Lokko insisted that the “PPP is not about a party, PPP is about Ghana and anybody who is a Ghanaian and feels that Ghana needs to be able to develop and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with any developed country in the world, should vote PPP because if you do, you voting for Ghana, you are being a patriot loving your country.”

Pollster Ben Ephson speaking on Eva Lokko's nomination, said her announcement lived up to the hype and added that, “she brings a number of advantages to the ticket,” but it largely depends on how the PPP uses her.

He was of the view that women will vote for her because she is a woman and her nomination will also give Ga-Dangmes, who feel they have been denied a recognition in Ghanaian politics.
