Accra, May 15, GNA- The Progressive People's Party (PPP) says the party is afraid that apathy would soon bedevil Ghana's democracy because the level of deprivation and poverty across the country contrast sharply with the political talk and propaganda.
“We are deeply disturbed by the enormous task left undone across the nation and if we do not take care, many of our people will simply get tired of voting, lose faith in the democratic form of governance and take matters into their own hands,” Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, Flag bearer of the party noted.
He was rendering an account of his recent nation-wide tour to assess the Biometric Voter Registration exercise in Accra where he used the occasion to thank the party's members and supporters for helping to promote the PPP as the change the country needs.
Dr Nduom said despite the endless arguments over statistics, “there is no better Ghana anywhere.”
“The people are tired of poverty in all its forms – disease infected water they drink, dangerous roads, low quality of education, poor housing, preventable diseases and very, very high unemployment”
“While people sit in air-conditioned offices and media houses to engage in endless arguments over statistics, the people out there are expressing their anger at the slow pace of development.
“There is no hope for a better Ghana. Ghanaians are looking for redemption and the PPP has made itself abundantly available running to the rescue,” he said.
Dr Nduom said he was encouraged by the response the party received on the tour, touting the PPP as the unique choice to better the lot of Ghanaians.
“It was obvious to us throughout the tour that the PPP is unique. It is the only political party that is going to the people to discuss what its people can do to unite the country, raise the quality of Ghanaian life and solve the problems that confront us – no insults, respect for others, no incitement of the people to violent behavior yet aggressively organising and gaining strength from community to community,” he said.
