The Professional Forum Youth Commission of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly condemned a recent statement attributed to the Member of Parliament for Koforidua, Hon. Okyere Baafi, in which he allegedly described the Ashanti Region NDC as an “anti‑Ashanti” political group.
The Commission has labelled the MP’s comments as reckless, inflammatory, and a deliberate attempt to incite public resentment against the regional party and, by extension, the NDC at the national level.
In a strongly worded press release issued on May 1, 2026, and signed by Mr. Benjamin Afram, Deputy National Youth Commissioner, the Commission expressed deep disappointment with the MP’s posture.
According to Mr. Afram, rather than promoting peace, unity, and truth, Hon. Okyere Baafi has resorted to divisive political rhetoric aimed at scoring cheap popularity.
Mr. Afram dismissed the allegations as baseless and emphasized that the NDC remains committed to inclusive governance across all regions of Ghana. He further highlighted the party’s appreciation for the critical contributions of public sector workers—particularly staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in Kumasi—whose efforts the Ashanti NDC holds in high regard.
“It is disheartening that at a time when we should be leveraging democracy to promote peace, unity, and freedom for Ghanaians, Hon. Okyere Baafi would use an issue like power outages to create divisions among citizens,” Mr. Afram stated.
The Commission therefore cautioned public office holders to refrain from abusing their platforms and urged them to uphold truth and responsibility in the interest of national development.
Mr. Afram also advised Ghanaians, especially residents of Kumasi, to treat the MP’s remarks with the contempt they deserve. He reiterated that neither the Ashanti NDC nor any of its officials harbour ill intentions toward the people of the Ashanti Region or ECG workers regarding power challenges—contrary to the impression created by the Koforidua MP.
The Commission reaffirmed that the NDC remains committed to national unity, responsible leadership, and inclusive development for all Ghanaians.

I mean, which intelligent politician could make such a statement? After all, the Ashanti Region he claims belongs to the Ashantes, has been more developed by the NDC. If the major projects in the Ashanti Region have been developed by the NPP, the Ashantes wouldn't be intelligent enough to vote for the NDC.
