Hundreds of commuters were left stranded on the Winneba Cape Coast highway on Monday after heavy flooding brought traffic to a complete halt along the busy route.
Rising floodwaters submerged sections of the road, making it impossible for vehicles and pedestrians to continue their journeys. The flooding cut off movement in both directions, leaving scores of travellers stranded for several hours.
With water levels continuing to rise on both sides of the highway, commuters had no option but to wait for conditions to improve before attempting to continue their journeys.
Traffic remained at a standstill until later in the afternoon, when the floodwaters gradually receded, allowing movement along the highway to resume.
