The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has sparked widespread debate on social media after launching a strongly worded response to a constituent who criticized him over flooding in the constituency.
The outspoken lawmaker, who became Ghana's first independent MP from the Central Region after winning the Gomoa Central parliamentary seat in the 2024 general election, reacted angrily after a resident reportedly urged him to stop focusing on entertainment-related activities and instead address the flooding situation affecting parts of the constituency.
In a lengthy Facebook post, A Plus defended himself, questioning what exactly he was expected to do about the rainfall.
"It is raining so I should go to heaven and ask Nebuchadnezzar to stop the rain or what?" he wrote.
Drawing comparisons with a similar situation in Kumasi, he recalled how some residents insulted the city's mayor for demolishing structures built on waterways, only to later complain when floods occurred.
According to him, if he were to undertake similar demolition exercises in his constituency to prevent flooding, many of the same residents would oppose him and insult him.
The MP did not hold back in his response, describing the critic as "stupid" and warning that he would insult anyone who approached him disrespectfully.
"Many of you Ghanaians have been pampered for far too long. Me I no dey fear you," he wrote, adding that he was not like other politicians who could be intimidated by the fear of losing votes.
"I keep telling you guys, I'm not your regular MP. I'm not one of the MPs you can blackmail with votes."
Although he said constituents are free to seek his assistance, he insisted they must do so respectfully.
"You can reach out to me for help; even though I'm not NADMO. But if you want to be stupid, I will insult you, your mother, your father, father, father!" he added.
