At least three people are reportedly dead after being electrocuted at Alajo in the Ayawaso Central Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, following heavy rains that caused widespread flooding in the area.
The incident occurred after a torrential downpour on Monday, June 29, submerged homes and left parts of the community underwater, causing significant destruction to property.
According to residents, the victims, believed to be in their mid-twenties to early thirties, were electrocuted while attempting to retrieve personal belongings from their flooded homes.
Eyewitnesses said many households were left stranded as floodwaters rose rapidly, forcing some residents to wade through the water in efforts to salvage their possessions before the tragic incident occurred.
The deaths add to the growing toll from the ongoing rains, which have disrupted transport systems, displaced residents, and caused widespread flooding across several communities in the Greater Accra Region.
