The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has warned that rainfall will persist across parts of the country, with more downpours and thunderstorms expected to affect southern Ghana as widespread flooding continues to disrupt movement in Greater Accra and Kasoa.

Monday's heavy rains, which started late Sunday night and continued into the morning, inundated several roads and communities, leaving motorists and commuters stranded while significantly affecting economic and social activities.

Among the areas impacted by the floods are sections of the N1 Highway, Apenkwa, Tesano, the Accra-Kasoa Highway, Weija, Mallam, Adabraka, Achimota, Spintex, Atomic Junction at Madina, Kaneshie, Darkuman Junction, and parts of the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange.

In its latest weather update, issued on Monday, June 29, 2026, GMet said prevailing conditions are expected to continue throughout the day.

“The rain, with or without thunder, of varying intensity currently affecting parts of the coast and a few inland areas is expected to persist throughout the forecast period amidst patches of mist or fog over the forest and mountainous regions,” the Agency stated.

GMet also disclosed that a developing weather system along the Togo-Benin coastline is likely to intensify rainfall activity over southern Ghana.

“However, a weak to moderate rainstorm sighted along the coast of Togo-Benin is anticipated to propagate westward, bringing increased cloud cover and triggering thunderstorms with rain over southern Ghana from this morning into the afternoon hours,” the Agency added.

The forecast indicates that coastal communities and several parts of southern Ghana are likely to continue experiencing intermittent rainfall and thunderstorms throughout the day, prompting renewed calls for residents to remain vigilant and avoid flood-prone areas.
