The body of a man believed to be in his 60s has been retrieved from the railway line at Alajo after torrential rains triggered severe flooding across Accra on Monday, June 29.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed the recovery as emergency response teams continued rescue and recovery operations in several flood-affected communities across the capital.
Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, Alex King Nartey, disclosed that the deceased was found along the railway corridor at Alajo following hours of heavy rainfall that inundated large parts of the city.
Beyond the loss of life, the flooding has left a trail of destruction, submerging homes, damaging vehicles and other properties, and rendering several major roads inaccessible.
Emergency personnel remain deployed to affected communities to rescue stranded residents, assess the extent of the damage and provide assistance to victims.
The latest fatality comes as continuous heavy rainfall continues to wreak havoc across parts of Accra, prompting authorities to intensify public safety warnings.
The Ghana National Fire Service has urged residents to avoid flood-prone areas, refrain from attempting to walk or drive through fast-moving floodwaters, and report emergencies promptly as response teams continue to monitor the evolving situation.
