Unconfirmed reports reveal that at least nine people are feared missing following severe flooding in the Awutu Senya East Municipality after hours of torrential rainfall.
Residents said seven people attempted to make their way to the roadside as rapidly rising floodwaters engulfed their community. However, they were overtaken by the strong current before reaching safety.
Community members who rushed to their aid managed to rescue four of them, while the remaining three were swept away and have yet to be found.
In another incident within the municipality, three more individuals are also reported to have been carried away by fast flowing floodwaters, raising the unconfirmed number of missing persons in that area to six.
Meanwhile, reports from Tuba indicate that a woman and her two children were swept away while attempting to walk through floodwaters. The three remain unaccounted for.
If confirmed, the separate incidents would bring the total number of people missing following the flooding in the municipality to nine.
Emergency response teams are expected to continue search and rescue operations as authorities work to verify the reports and assess the full extent of the flooding and its impact.
