Minister of Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has said none of the three Agenda III hospital projects inaugurated by former President Nana Akufo-Addo before leaving office were fully completed or operational.
The former President inaugurated the facilities on December 5, 2025, at Trede in the Atwima Kwanwoma Municipality, Drobonso in the Sekyere Afram Plains District—both in the Ashanti Region—and Bokro in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region.
During an inspection of the Trede hospital today, Mr. Akandoh stated that while civil works were about 95% complete, critical aspects such as medical equipment delivery, installation, and operationalization remained outstanding.
Additionally, he pointed out that there was no plan in place to recruit healthcare workers for the facility.
“The hospitals may look physically complete, but without equipment, staff, and an operational framework, they cannot serve the public,” he emphasized.
The Minister further disclosed that the outstanding debt on the Trede project alone amounted to over $8 million (GH¢10 billion), raising concerns about the financial burden on the state.
He urged contractors to ensure that the hospital equipment already delivered was properly protected from dust and damage until the hospitals were fully operational.
Additionally, he highlighted the poor road network leading to the Trede facility, calling for urgent rehabilitation to ensure smooth access for patients and medical personnel.
The Health Minister assured Ghanaians that the government would take the necessary steps to fully complete and operationalize the hospitals, improving healthcare delivery in the affected regions.
