The Special Assistant to the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Owusu Agyepong has called on students to use their knowledge to fight for the advancement of the country and their communities.

He said the days when ethnic groups went to war to expand their territorial boundaries were gone and reminded them that the current world is rule by knowledge, hence many countries were reforming their educational systems to enable the youth to acquire the best knowledge for progress.

Mr Agyepong was speaking at the inauguration of the Koforidua Polytechnic Chapter of the Asante Students Union (ASU) at Koforidua in the Eastern Region last Saturday.

The inaugural ceremony was organised under the theme: “Focusing on National Building, the role of Asante Students, 50 years of Independence.” He advised them to be united, have respect for one another and not to allow petty squabbles to divide them.

Mr Agyepong urged the union to do what they could to help reduce the use of false documents in entering tertiary institutions in the country, avoid getting involved in examination mal-practices and institutions.

The Chief of Koforidua-Ada, Odeefuo Boadi Asiedu, said during the colonial era, Asante students in London came to the Gold Coast and played significant role in the fight for independence. He said some of the students played major role in the establishment of Asanteman Secondary School and other schools in the Ashanti Region where they volunteered their services to help in the education of other younger Ghanaians.
