Saturday, March 24 should have been Madam Hawa Yakubu, the former MP for Bawku Central's 60th birthday.

She died just six days to what should have been a memorable occasion.

A statement signed by Nana Kofi Coomson, publisher of the Chronicle group of newspapers and a confidante of the deceased said a special song composed for her by Sly Collins would be played in her memory by radio stations which had the disc on the occasion of her 60th birthday.

It said until her death, Madam Yakubu was being treated for cancer, adding that it was "safe to say that she died out of cancer and had gone through chemotherapy sessions".

It said the late Madam Yakubu's condition had stabilized for a while before the onset of a crisis on Monday, leading to her death at the Barnett General Hospital.

The statement said the late MP's elder brothers were due to leave for London to help bring the body back to Ghana to be buried at Pusiga in the Upper East Region.
