Rev. Opuni Frimpong, Founder of Alliance for Christian Advocacy Africa, has urged Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to take a more decisive stance on the controversial anti-gay bill awaiting approval by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

In an interview on Peace FM News monitored by ModernGhana News, Rev. Frimpong expressed disappointment with Dr. Bawumia's current weak stance on LGBTQ+ issues, emphasising that it serves no purpose for the country unless he actively advocates for the bill to be passed into law.

Rev. Frimpong noted that transparency is crucial, especially from a high-ranking government official like the Vice President who aspire to become President.

He stressed that “the public expects more than just opinions, particularly on sensitive matters like LGBTQ+ rights.”

He suggested that “if there are differences in opinion between Dr. Bawumia and the President regarding the anti-gay bill, it is essential for the Vice President to address them publicly or consider resigning from his position.”

The Reverend emphasised that “the lack of transparency not only raises questions about Dr. Bawumia's commitment to upholding the rights of all Ghanaians but also undermines public trust in his leadership.”
