Cynthia Morrison, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Agona West faced defeat in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary held on Saturday, April 13.

The primary results revealed that Mrs. Morrison secured 152 votes, against her close opponent Christopher Arthur, who clinched victory with 240 votes to become the NPP Parliamentary Candidate.

Ben Yamoah followed closely behind with 221 votes, Yawson Otoo garnered 168 votes, and Joseph Afrankwa secured 155 votes.

As the news of her defeat circulated, a viral video captured the moment Cynthia Morrison was met with boos and jeers from the crowd at the voting centre.

Amidst the disapproving voices, one individual could be heard saying, "Shame on you - you'd have won if you lived a good life."

Meanwhile, supporters of Christopher Arthur burst into jubilation following his victory in the primary election.

The primary contest took place at a single voting centre slocated at Otabilkrom Astroturf in Agona Swedru.

Cynthia Morrison first won the Agona West seat during the 2016 general elections, securing 32,770 votes out of the total 56,878 votes cast, representing 58.03 percent of the valid votes.

In the subsequent 2020 general election, Morrison ran for re-election as the NPP parliamentary candidate and secured a second four-year term by polling 30,513 votes out of 59,193 valid votes cast.

Her main opponent, Paul Ofori-Amoah of the National Democratic Congress, trailed behind with 27,673 votes, while an Independent candidate, Ishmael Kofi Tekyi Turkson, got 1,007 votes.
