Dr. Gideon Boako, the spokesperson for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called for a mental examination of the Presbyterian Boys' Senior High School (PRESEC) student who orchestrated his kidnapping.

The incident involved the staged abduction of a PRESEC student, who, together with his peers, demanded a ransom of GH¢340,000 from his family.

Despite receiving GH¢20,000, the captors refused to release the student and demanded an additional GH¢300,000, threatening harm if their demands were not met.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the entire kidnapping was a scheme devised by the captive and his fellow students to extort money from his family, with the intention of financing his travel abroad.

Expressing his dismay over the situation on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show, Dr. Gideon Boako described the behaviour of the students as worrying and called for a mental health assessment of the main culprit.

Dr. Boako emphasised that the student's actions, apart from being criminal, raise questions about his mental well-being.

He said, “The boy has to be investigated mentally as it defies human logic for any person, particularly a youth whose parents have done and are doing everything possible to provide him with adequate education and to secure his future, to think of kidnapping himself to defraud his parents.”
