In a recent entertaining segment on the Hello FM morning show, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)'s communications bureau, was asked by the host to clarify his own party's campaign message, the "24-hour economy," which they claim will uplift Ghana. His explanation surprisingly left listeners puzzled, prompting the host to even ask for his name again.

The NDC's notion of a "24-hour economy" sounds more like comic relief rather than a concrete plan. When pressed for specifics, they faltered, leaving many questioning the seriousness of their ambitious promises.

Former NDC Deputy Minister of Information, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, once suggested that in the 24-hour economy, wakye sellers would operate round the clock because nighttime waakye sales are rare. Is there anything more humorous than this?

While citizens seek economic solutions, the NDC's proposals seem more like jokes. At times, one wonders if the NDC is a serious political entity at all.

Mr. John Mahama, the NDC leader, seems stuck in 2012 and 2016, offering no fresh ideas. While other nations progress, the NDC struggles to articulate a single robust social plan, despite identifying as a socialist party. In Ghana’s political arena, the NDC’s performance is more comedic than constructive.

Lest we forget, Mr. Spio Gabrah said lack of good political campaigning messages cost the NDC’s defeat in the 2016 general election.

I am anticipating the same in the 2024 general election, looking at how they’ve started. Citizens desire better policies which have the tendency to make their lives better and transform the nation, which the New Patriotic Party (NPP) can’t be left out.

The NPP demonstrates greater dedication to Ghana’s future. Even in the worst NPP government, it is still far better than all regimes of the NDC.

Ultimately, if laughter is therapeutic, then the NDC’s campaign hits the mark. However, for tangible change, Ghana requires a party that delivers more than just amusement.
