The District Chief Executive (DCE) of South Tongu district in the Volta Region, Seth Kwesi Agbi has called for financial support to send relief items to people in his Constituency.

According to him, relief items received for onward distribution to victims of the flooding caused by the Akosombo Dam spillage are stuck in warehouses.

Speaking to Citi News on Monday evening, Seth Kwesi Agbi said the District Assembly is unable to transport relief items to victims because of a lack of money to fuel vehicles.

“The cars are there. We have the cars but the cars cannot move without fuel. That’s the problem.

“We have assembly cars, we have pick-ups, but we cannot transport the items. As for cars, we don’t have a problem but fuel and money to pay the boys their loading fees; that's where the problem is,” Seth Kwesi Agbi bemoaned.

In an appeal, the South Tongo District Chief Executive called on corporate Ghana and well-to-do Ghanaians to support the district financially to be able to transport the items to the victims of the floods.

“We need financial support. We are begging corporate Ghana to come to our aid,” Seth Kwesi Agbi said.

Relief items stuck at the warehouse and awaiting transportation to flood victims include rice, student mattresses, maize, and cooking oil, among other things.

Several communities in the Volta Region have been affected by the flooding following the spillage of the Akosombo dam.

This has resulted in the displacement of thousands of residents in parts of Volta, Eastern, and Greater Accra Regions.
