The special aide to former president Rawlings has dismissed the apology rendered by the party chairman as a ploy to win sympathy ahead of the NDC's National Delegates congress on Thursday.
Victor Smith revealed this in an interview with newsmen that Obed Asamoah made the gesture in the hope of improving his chances at re-election. He insisted that the chairman should step aside.
The NDC party chairman extended olive branches to founder of the party, former President Rawlings and the former Vice President Prof. Atta Mills to forget about their difference and forge ahead in unity to unseat the NPP in 2008.
But Mr. Smith says the gesture is just a ploy to win votes and appealed to the NDC delegates who will be voting on Thursday not to be taken in by Dr. Asamoah's move.
