Declare Your Position On Morgues For Zangos — National Zango Caucus To Bawumia

The Communication officer of the National Zango Caucus, Alhaji Mohammed Naziru is demanding vice-president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and all Muslims in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to declare their stance on the construction of morgues for Zango communities.

This follows flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. John Dramani Mahama interview with Woezor TV over the weekend revealed that he will build mortuaries in the Zongo communities when his party wins the 2020 General Elections.

Critics have read several meanings into the campaign promise with some insisting that the former President is putting in place a contingency plan to take care of deaths that will occur in the Zango communities when he legalizes Okada.

In a press statement from the National Zango Caucus signed by Alhaji Mohammed Naziru who is also the NDC Manifesto Spokesperson on Zango and Islamic Affairs, the group stresses that Dr. Bawumia and all Muslims in NPP must declare their sincere position on the provision of Islamic morgues for Zangos.

According to the group, the promise by the NDC to build or provide Islamic morgues for our Muslim and Zango communities was a request from the Muslim leaderships during their consultations process for the 'PEOPLE'S MANIFESTO'.

They insist that there is a need for Muslim morgues to provide decent and dignifying last respect to the dead in accordance with Islamic teachings and practices.

DR BAWUMIA AND ALL MUSLIMS IN NPP MUST DECLARE THEIR SINCERE POSITION ON THE PROVISION OF ISLAMIC MORGUES FOR ZONGOS

We woke up this morning to the unfortunate propaganda by some NPP elements seeking to discredit H.E John Dramani Mahama's commitment to building morgues (in line with Islam practices and management) for our zongos.

Before we proceed let us be clear here, the promise by the NDC to build or provide Islamic morgues for our Muslim and Zongo communities was as a REQUEST from the Muslim leaderships during our consultations process for the 'PEOPLE'S MANIFESTO'. The need for Muslim morgues have been a request and prayer of the Muslims to provide decent and dignifying last respect to the dead in accordance with Islamic teachings and practices.

First of all, with the turn of events when some members of the NPP are making mockery and discrediting the request of Muslims, it is very necessary (sine qua non) that, H.E Dr Bawmia and Hon. Mustapha Hamid come out to declare their position on the provision of special morgues for Muslims since they are practicing Muslims and they are mandated by Allah to speak and defend the TRUTH always if it is even against oneself.

Secondly, in strict adherence to Islamic procedure and principles of handling the dead body of Muslims, it is a requirement for women to handle the preparation of a female corpse while men handle that of males. These the Muslims in the Zongos who unfortunately die in our hospital are being denied because people who handle such cases in our existing morgues are mostly not Muslims to carry out their duties to the satisfaction of the ordinary Zongo persons.

We all agree that the COVID-19 has come with it new set of protocols termed as the "new normal" meaning, Muslims who die through COVID-19 may not have the luxury of full customs and traditions required for a befitting burial, as such, there is the need to establish such morgues as promised by John Mahama to cope with changing trends.

Aside, meeting the Islamic mandatory requirements to provide dignifying last respect to the dead, the morgues will provide additional JOBS to the Zongo youth and Muslim health workers.

We in the Zongos are very grateful to H.E John Mahama for listening to our cry, we just hope and pray that the good people of Ghana will vote massively for the John&Jane ticket to achieving this and many other commitments like the establishment plastic factories in our Zongos to create jobs, scholarships up to tertiary for our Zongo youth, 10b big push agenda among others.
