JAN 1, 2016 LISTEN

The annual 100 Most Influential Africans of 2015 presents the continent’s definitive power list and profiles the continent’s top game changers in eight different fields: Politics (22); Public Office (4); Arts and Culture (21); Business (21); Civil Society (11); Technology(9); Media (7); and Sports (5). This list was collated by the New African magazine. Two Ghanaians namely Anas Aremeyaw Anas who was listed in the Media category and Raindolf Owusu who was also listed in the Science technology category of the influential list. Prominent Ghanaians like Komla Dumor and Hon Hannah tetteh, Minister of Foreign Affairs & Regional Integration have previously been featured in this prestigious list.

Among the 30 countries represented, Nigerians and South Africans dominate the list, with 20 and 16 personalities respectively. Kenya, Uganda and Cameroon also feature strongly with eight and six entries respectively. Of the top 100 personalities 65 are men and 32 are women, with the other three being groups of people. South Africa’s students, for example, were recognised this year for their role in South Africa’s #FeesMustFall and #Rhodesmustfall campaigns. See their profiles here.

Anas Aremeyaw Anas is a Ghanaian investigative journalist and politically non-aligned multimedia journalist who specializes in print media and documentary, Anas focuses on issues of human rights and anti-corruption in Ghana and sub-Saharan Africa. Anas has won critical acclaim for his work advocating for basic human rights such as the right to not be held in human slavery or servitude and for his work exposing corruption. His investigative works have won him worldwide acclaim with President Barack Obama highlighting his virtues in a speech during his 2009 visit to Ghana. On the 23rd of September 2015 Anas premiered, in four showings, in front of a record-breaking over 6500 people at the Accra International Conference Center his new - and perhaps most significant to date - undercover film "Ghana In The Eyes Of God". This focuses on the corruption within the Ghanaian Judiciary sector. It exposed the widespread corruption within the Judiciary and graphically showed court workers like clerks and bailiffs connive with a number of respected Judges to influence court cases through bribes. Thirty-four judges and magistrates were caught on a hidden camera receiving enticements of money, goats, sheep and even foodstuffs. As a result presumed robbers, murderers, drug traffickers, rapists and litigants in land cases went free.

Raindolf Owusu is a Ghanaian born Entrepreneur and Software Developer with a proven track record of successful projects. He is also the Founder and CEO of Oasis Websoft. A Ghanaian based technology startup. His software projects include deploying Africa‟s first web browser called Anansi web Browser, Anansipedia which aims to give students seamless access to world class information and Ebola Ghana Alert. When Ebola hit the West African continent last year, he came together with other change makers and key holders to develop and deploy Ebola Ghana Alert. The aim of the Ebola Alert Ghana initiative is to provide people in Ghana and beyond with a reliable and easy-to-use application for the tracking, training and disseminating of information to the general public about the Ebola virus. His most recent project is called Bisa which means ask in twi. Bisa is a mobile application that is available on all smartphones which provides users with valuable health information, tips for managing their health and also allows users to ask doctors issues affecting their health. Users can send a clear snapshot of the area they’re concerned about and medical professionals will review and respond to their query with a short report. He was also listed in Forbes Africa 30 under 30 Africa’s most promising entrepreneurs in 2015. He was also selected by the US Department of state as a 2015 Mandela Washington Mandela Fellow which allowed him to meet President Barack Obama in August 2015.

We say Ayeekoo to the two sons of Ghana who were featured in this list.
