Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has moved to ease concerns over Antoine Semenyo’s fitness after the forward was seen limping following Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Croatia in Philadelphia.
Ghana slipped to third in Group L after the loss on Saturday, with Petar Sučić and Nikola Vlašić scoring to cancel out Derrick Luckassen’s equaliser in a game decided by defensive lapses.
Late in the match, concern grew when Semenyo went down inside the Croatian penalty area after a challenge and required treatment on the pitch. Although he appeared to be in discomfort, the forward managed to complete the full 90 minutes.
Speaking after the game, Queiroz dismissed fears of a serious setback, insisting the issue was minor.
“No, it's just a knock; he will be alright,” he told reporters.
The coach also reflected on the result, pointing to Ghana’s errors as the decisive factor in the contest.
“Croatia scored two goals, two easy goals. Much too easy the way they scored. When you score one more goal than the opponent, you have the merit to win the game.
“Simple like that. It means we make one more mistake than the opponent, and when you make one more mistake than the opponent, that is it.”
Ghana now shift focus to a Round of 32 clash against Colombia, scheduled for Saturday at Kansas City Stadium, with the 26-year-old expected to be in action.
