The Genealogy Of Bimbilla Naa Alhaji Salifu Dawuni

The ancestral lineage of a royal plays a significant role in establishing his right to chieftaincy throne. This is not different in the case of the customs and tradition regarding chieftaincy in the Nanung Kingdom. This article seeks to add knowledge to existing information in relation to the chieftaincy crisis in Bimbilla. The article looks at the ancestry of Naa Salifu Dawuni and Mr. Andani Dasana.

How is Naa Salifu Dawuni related to the Gbungmayili gate? Bimbilla Naa Alhaji Salifu Dawuni traces his ancestry to Naa Azim (Gbuhuma). Naa Gbuhuma gave birth to a number of children. However, only two of the many children ascended the Bimbilla throne. These children were Bimbilla Naa Sheru and Bimbilla Naa Mahama Kalo.

Bimbilla Naa Sheru ascended the Bimbilla throne and joined his ancestors afterwards. At this moment Juo Naa Andani was the chief of Juanayili and Nakpa-Na Nahikurugu was the chief of Nakpa. There was a contest between Jua-Na Andani and Nakpa-Na Nahikurugu and both died before the final funeral rites of Bimbilla Naa Sheru. Before his demise, Nakpa-Na Nahikurugu gave his daughter Nabi Kasuwa to Chamba-Naa Mahama Kalo who intends married Kasuwa to his son Nabiyong Dahamani. The couples gave birth to Lepuhi-Na Dawuni (father of Bimbilla Naa Alhaji Salifu Dawuni).

Meanwhile, Naa Mahama Kalo was promoted from Chamba skin to Nakpa and subsequently installed as the paramount chief of Bimbilla. The wisdom in the customary practices of Nanung is great. Chamba Naa Mahama Kalo didn’t ascend the Bimbilla skin because he occupied the Chamba skin. He was promoted to Nakpa first before ascending to Bimbilla. Why should Mr. Andani Dasana become Bimbilla-Na without a chieftaincy title? Those who propagate lies that Naa Salifu Dawuni is not related to the Gbuhungmayili gate are rather aliens.

Mr. Andani Dasana had a mysterious lineage to the Gbuhungmayili gate. Jua Andani’s matrilineal uncle was Yagri Lana. Yagri Lana gave Jua Andani the title of Jokulo Yili. Jua Andani renamed Jokulo to Jua and present day Jua naayili. Meanwhile, Jagri Lana sister Pahanaa was impregnated by Grumah doo (Jagri Lana’s herdsman) and absconded. Pahanaa gave birth to Wumbei Kirekire. Jua Andani adopted Wumbei because they couldn’t trace his father.

Wumbei (adopted son) married Pahawuni (whose maternal uncle was Jua Andani) in Jua Andani’s house and gave birth to Naa Abdulai (Mr. Andani’s grandfather). Naa Abdulai was chosen by Jua Andani as his regent even before his death. Naa Abdulai who was a maternal grandson to Jua Andani then moved from regent of Jua to Bogu, Jua-Na, Nakpa-Na and to Bimbilla. Naa Abdulai gave birth to Naa Dasani who also gave birth to Mr. Andani Dasana.
