Modern Women of Wisdom International (MWOW), a purpose- driven female humanitarian Association applauds the Speaker of Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, Professor Mike Aaron Ocquaye for the courageous and prudent steps taken by him to stop gay rights in the country.
In our contemporary world, it is sad to note, that those who support the definition of marriage as one man and one woman are normally tagged as anti-gay.
For some time now, an overwhelming intolerance for those who support traditional marriage keeps brewing and rising up.
In nurturing and developing children, marriage is first and foremost. Marriage is a sacred institution between a man and a woman and it has been the solid rock for procreation from time immemorial. Marriage is defined as the union of a man and a woman, and to change that legalization denies marriage’s basic role as a step towards reproduction. Any change in the law will remove the terms “father and mother” from the civil code weakening the rights of heterosexual families.
We strongly believe the speaker holds the view that has been the consensus in our country and most parts of the world for over centuries.
Although polls indicate that the consensus on gay rights is changing across the globe, we are optimistic the Speaker of Parliament like many other believers, will not change his faith-driven view on this matter, even if it becomes a minority opinion in the world.
Historically and traditionally, the power of marriage belongs to the people and not human right associations. We urge our leaders to imitate the Kingdom of God principled traits of the Speaker of Parliament and misalign themselves from accepting gay marriage and other cultural practices that works against natural law and risk undermining both the institution of marriage and the family’s role in holding up society.
