The Electoral Commission Must Stop Proving Obstinate; Had I Known Is Always At Last—Eastern Patriots

The tension surrounding the quest for "New Credible Voters Register" for election 2016 indicates clearly that Ghanaians will not compromise on anything except the electoral commission adheres to their voices.

Ghana has witnessed series of pre-electoral tensions particularly in the election year. What makes the tension surrounding election 2016 a different one is the fact that the 2016 election fever has started very early and have attracted many social groups, independent bodies, organizations and associations as well as vociferous individuals and statesmen/women.

The tension portrays clearly how ugly election 2016 will be if care is not taken.

QUESTIONS GHANAIANS KEEP ASKING ;
* Is the electoral commission a truly independent body?

* Does the Electoral Commission stand to loose something if the register is changed?

* Is the commission serving the interest of the nation or the one who appointed the Commissioner?

Yes!
It will cost Ghana some amount of money to change the register but the cost wouldn't be huge as compared to the cost Ghana will incur if the unfortunate happens out of the stiffness of the EC to satisfy Ghanaians.

The NDP, PPP, NPP and other political parties, LMVC, MJA and other pressure groups have petitioned the electoral commission yet the commission seem not to be ready to respond to the wind of changing the register.

Noble statesmen and women including Former President Rawlings (founder of NDC) and his wife Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings (founder of NDP), former President Kuffour, Otumfour Osei Tutu II - King of the Ashanti Kingdom and Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee (founder of Salt and Light Ministry), the Christian Council and the Clergy coupled with some known political activists and experts such as political science lecturers have all called for New Voters Register.

This shows how serious the call is and how sensitive it is to be joked with.

We want to take this opportunity to commend the above mentioned statesmen and women for publicly endorsing the call for new credible voters register. They have proved to have the state (Ghana) at heart.

The Electoral Commissioner - Charlotte Osei and her team are deliberately playing gymnastic tactics on Ghanaians with the intension of delaying this matter of serious concern just to give excuse at the eleventh hour.

Ghanaians are wise and won't tolerate that attitude putting up by the Electoral Commissioner.

If Charlotte Osei feels she can't do the work, she should resign. It is not too late.
