Mark Owen Woyongo
DAILY GUIDE has gathered that constituency executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Navrongo Central in the Upper East Region, are divided over efforts to get the Member of Parliament and Minister of Interior, Mark Owen Woyongo, to either go for the forthcoming primaries of the party unopposed or strategically positioned to win the contest.

An insider told DAILY GUIDE that the expansion of the party's delegates for the forthcoming primaries in the constituency had started sending worrying signals to some executives who had been working for the MP, fearing that if Mark Woyongo is not protected, he is likely to lose the opportunity to represent the NDC in the 2016 parliamentary election.

In the Navrongo Central constituency, out of any 10 NDC supporters interviewed at random, six claim the MP is neither visible nor accessible. There had been times when people who claim to be NDC members in the constituency had threatened on radio that they would no longer support or vote for Woyongo, because he had not been the father he promised to be.

On Thursday, August 20, 2015, constituency executives of the party and other functionaries were called to a meeting at the St. Lucio Social Centre in Navrongo, where some bigwigs from the national and the regional levels were scheduled to have educated the gathering on the on-going biometric registration by the party.

According to an eyewitness, the programme ended abruptly because there was a misunderstanding between the executives and the members.

The misunderstanding, according to the eyewitness, emanated from statements made by some bigwigs at the meeting, which suggested that no one should contest Mr. Mark Owen Woyongo in the impending constituency primaries.
