An Accra Fast Track High Court has stated that the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) has the mandate by law to collect TV License from owners of TV sets across the nation.

However, the court is yet to determine whether GBC has the right to share TV License fees with any organisation.

A former Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority, Dr Charles Wereko Brobby last week filed a suit at the Fast Track High Court in Accra, seeking to restrain the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) from what he described as 'illegally' sharing TV Licence proceeds with the National Media Commission (NMC) and the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA).

GBC and the other Defendants developed a formula by which on collection of the TV Licence Fees, GBC will retain 75% whilst it gives 4% to the Media Development Fund, 4% to the NMC, 15% to GIBA and 2% to the Film Fund.

But Wilberforce Asare reported Monday that the court presided over R.B Batu said GBC can resume the collection of TV license for the development of the corporation.
