Koforidua, April 10, GNA - The President of All Nations University College (ANU), Dr Samuel Donkor, has called for efforts to strengthen security in the various university colleges in the country.
He explained that once the student-population increased into hundreds and thousands, the colleges turned into communities and the security system needed to improve to ensure the safety of the students and their lecturers, especially in view of current world trends.
Dr Donkor suggested that both public and private university colleges be allowed to build their own well trained security staff who would be paid by the universities, but with close links with the police service, so that when the need arose, they could count on the police service to provide security.
Dr Donkor was interacting with media personnel in Koforidua as part of activities of the university to inform the media about the developments of the university college.
He said, the primary aim of the ANU is to build one of the best universities in the world to provide the opportunity for Ghanaian youth to also excel and compete effectively with their colleagues from other parts of the world.
He said, in that direction, the university had put in place structures for the development of a strong faculty where the university would support its staff to further their education at the best universities in the world.
Dr Donkor said, the university had currently established an earth satellite station, for the study of space science in the country.
He said the station is linked to all the satellite stations in university colleges in the world, and also monitors satellites that cross over the air space of the country.
Dr Donkor said, the university had plans to build a teaching hospital to support the study of medical science in future and also build one of the best university stadia in the country.
This, he said, is to help promote inter-university sports league to provide opportunity for the young sports men and women in the country to continue to develop their sporting talents beyond the secondary school level and also to train world class athletes.
