12.08.2013 LISTEN

Given the nature and constancy of change and the transitional challenges facing us as a nation, the key to making the right choices will come from embodying the leadership qualities necessary to succeed in a global economy.

For Ghana to survive an succeed as a nation in today 's 21st century world, it is key that we make the right, timely choices, an outcome of embodying the leadership qualities necessary to succeed in a global economy.

Globally competitive success will depend on our ability as a nation to put in active service, a new generation of thinking leaders, not managers.

* Leaders conquer the volatile, the turbulent, ambiguous surroundings that sometimes seem to conspire against us and will surely suffocate us if we allow them but the manager surrenders to it.

* The leader innovates - * The manager administers
* The leader exhibits originality - * The manager is a copy

* The leader develops - * The manager maintains
* The leader inspires trust - * The manager relies on control

* The leader has a long-range perspective - * The manager has a short-range view

* The leader has his or her eye on the horizon - * The manager has his or her eye on the bottom

* The leader challenges the status quo - * The manager accepts it

* The leader is his or her own person - * The manager is the classic good soldier under command

* The leader does the right thing - * The manager does things right

*.Leadership is of the spirit, compounded of personality, and vision.

* Management is of the mind, more a matter of accurate calculation, statistics, methods, timetables and routine

Leaders must inspire people to tap their enormous human potential, to challenge conventional ideas, to take risks in pursuit of their goals and dreams, to create enthusiasm for excellence, and to focus on visions that guide nations, and embrace all citizens . And remember that inspiration starts from the top.

The new game Ghana must play to succeed, is the active engagement of qualitative leadership distributed at the grassroots, that is people-oriented, has value-rich indices, and is focused on the long term. Leaders to play the big transform game, not managers. Change we can; Yes we can!
