Unilever Ghana Limited, Ghana's leading name in homecare and laundry products, has launched a new and improved version of the favourite detergent, Omo.

At an impressive media and customer launch in Accra Thursday afternoon, Maidie Arkutu, Brand Building Director of Unilever Ghana observed that the new and improved Omo washing powder contains pro-active cleaning molecules that penetrate deep into fabrics to remove tough, dried stains and leave no shadow stains behind.

The “new and improved Omo comes in a new packaging design endorsed with the “New Improved Formula icon” and a New Perfume that leaves a pleasant fragrance in your clothes,” she said.

The Omo brand leads the market in the fabric cleaning powders category of Unilever Ghana's laundry products, and remains Ghana's number one. Key Soap and Sunlight are also among the company's leading brands.

She said in line with Omo's thrust to defend its leadership as the No. 1 laundry powder, Unilever will continue to remain relevant to the consumer and offer value for money.

“This is evidenced in the continuous innovations on the brand in recent past, which we believe invariably would translate into more business for our trade partners as we continue to develop the washing powders market. We are therefore not only offering our consumers value but, also a profitable business for the mutual benefit of all stakeholders: our business, our trade partners and our shareholders.”

In a lively demonstration of the power of the now Omo, four randomly picked participants at the launching ceremony were asked to wash clothes stained with oil and other stains, and patrons were thrilled to see the stains disappear in a matter of minutes.

Sylvia Acquah, Category Manager, Home Care, said Omo has been and continues to be a strong pillar of Unilever's total laundry Business, commanding about 32.3% value share.

“One may ask, what is the idea that drove Unilever to come out with a new and improved Omo formulation? Well, to answer that, we at Unilever realized that children spend most of their day outside playing and exploring whilst learning some of life's valuable lessons through their daily experiences. In doing this they also pick up a variety and number of stains that set into their clothes which when washed overtime become dull (especially the whites). These fabrics although they appear clean, when held up to light, show evidence of shadow stains that have remained behind. “

“I wish I had a detergent that removes the stains completely and leaves no shadow stains behind” is the prayer that comes to every mother's mind when she is found in this situation.

She said in spite of its superior cleaning attributes The New Omo Washing Powder is still affordable to consumers and continues to offer attractive trade margins to retailers.
