It was a night of glory for Pointblanknews.com as its publisher and editor-in-chief, Mr. Jackson Ude beat three other international journalists to clinch Scroll Magazine's “Foreign journalist of the year award.”

At the event which held at the prestigious 10 Degrees Event Centre, Ikeja, Lagos, Ude beat Messrs Tunde Agoe, Paul Okolo and George Esiri of AFP, Voice of America and Reuter's news agency respectively.

The organizers described Mr. Ude as a “consummate journalist” whose style had impacted positively on news reportage in Nigeria, saying upcoming journalists had a lot to learn from the New York-based publisher who began his journalism career in Nigeria.

At the well-attended event, Lagos State governor Babatunde Fashola beat Governors Rotimi Amaechi Jonah Jang, Isa Yuguda and Olusegun Mimiko of Rivers, Plateau, Bauchi and Ondo States respectively, to clinch the “Media-friendly governor of the year award.”

The event saw a former governorship aspirant in Lagos State, Mrs. Remi Adikwu-Bakare beating the deputy governor of Plateau State, Mrs. Pauline Tallen, and her former colleague in Anambra, Dame Virgy Etiaba to bag the “outstanding female politician of the year” award.

Prior to moving to the United States, Mr. Ude had a very robust journalism career which took him to cover such places as the then newly-inaugurated National Assembly and new political parties. In addition to publishing Pointblanknews.com, one of the most authoritative and respected online newspapers, Mr. Ude is the author of “Straight Talk,” a regular column on Pointblanknews.com
