Accra, May 22, GNA – The Member of Parliament (MP) for Odododiodoo Constituency, Mr Tachie Kommey on Friday urged China Railway Corporation (CRC), the contractors working on the Accra Central District roads and the Korle bridge project to speed up work on the project.

He said the Korle beach road is an essential route because it links people from the western part of Accra to the Central business district of the capital.

Mr Kommey made the comment when he paid a working visit to some ongoing roads and other projects in his constituency.

The tour took the MP and his entourage through the Asafoatse Nettey street which is under construction, through Palladium down to join the Korle Bu-Akoto Lante road , through the old slaughter house to connect the Korle beach road in front of the Ghana National Fire Service Training School to the Korle bridge project.

The team also visited the Ayalolo cluster of schools near the timber market and the Independence Avenue “1” Basic schools near the Ghana School of Law.

He said baring any hitches the Korle bridge project could be completed by the end of the year and opened to traffic.

He said the delay of the Korle Bridge was that the initial metal piles which were cast to stabilized the base of the bridge crumbled and new ones had to be imported to be able to build the deck of the bridge.

Mr. Bu Zhuging, Project Manager, China Railway Corporation gave assurance that with the work rate including both day and night, they could complete the project even before the end of the year.

He said the ecological condition of the area was not good and a lot of work has to be done to stabilize the base of the bridge to enable them to build the deck of the bridge.

At the Ayalolo Cluster of Schools and Independence Avenue “1” Basic Schools, officials of the schools complained of poor infrastructure which did not augur well for teaching and learning.

Mr Israel Martei, Circuit Supervisor, Ghana Education Service, Ashieduketeke Sub-Metro appealed to the MP to assist the Ayalolo Cluster of Schools with security men and electricity to ward off the activities of commercial sex workers who had been using the area for their nefarious activities.

He also pleaded with the MP to help the schools carryout renovations because most of the structures which were built in the 50s had not been renovated since then.
