Kotoko turn on style at Kpando

KOTOKO ARE BACK IN CONTENTION Champions Asante Kotoko pulled the chestnut out of the blazing fire and sealed a 1-2 win over Heart of Lions at the Kpando Park on Wednesday afternoon in an outstanding Glo Premier League match.

 
Kotoko had to bounce after a slim 1-0 defeat to regional rivals Kessben last Sunday and that derailed their title defence ambitions.

Winger Francis Akwaffo put the Porcupine Warriors ahead after 40 minutes when he struck a free-kick to beat Lions goalkeeper Steve Ahorlu.

Lions showed their intentions of winning to keep the pressure on leaders Hearts of Oak after the opening six minutes in the second half.

Kofi Nti Boakye was left unmarked inside the Kotoko box and latched onto a poor clearance by the defenders to place the ball at the blind side of goalie Nii Baah.

Kotoko looked well composed and had the chuck of territorial dominance with their defensive approach pivoted around their five midfielders.

In one of the afternoon's counter-attacks, striker Alex Asamoah rounded a defender and quickly unleashed a powerful shot with left foot to secure the win for the visitors.

Lions defeat means Hearts maintain their seven point lead and Kotoko moved to third place; eight points off the park.

At the Essipong Stadium, Sekondi Eleven Wise dismissed Tema Youth 1-0 in the other postponed fixture to move to sixth place.

Winfred Dormon headed in James Bissue on 49 minutes to divide the two sides.
