Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, wife of the New Patriotic (NPP), presidential candidate for Election 2008, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on women to vote massively for the candidate, to enable him to continue with the good works of the Kufuor Government.

She said Nana Akufo-Addo was determined to build on the foundation laid by the Kufuor administration to improve the living conditions of women.

Mrs. Akufo-Addo made the call when she addressed rallies of women groups at Goaso, Bechem, Sunyani, Techiman, Kintampo and Jema during a three-day tour of the Brong Ahafo Region.

She said the NPP Government has introduced policies including the Capitation Grant, School Feeding Programme, National Health Insurance Scheme and free maternal care for pregnant women to help improve the living condition of Ghanaians.

Mrs. Akufo-Addo said the NPP presidential candidate had promised that if voted into power, he would ensure that senior high school education was made free and affordable housing provided.

“Making education the priority of the NPP government would go a long way to advance the economy and Nana Akufo-Addo would strive to make his campaign promises a reality”, Mrs Akufo-Addo said.

She said the ultimate vision of the NPP government was to eradicate poverty adding that the introduction of pension scheme for farmers as promised by Nana Akufo-Addo was a sure way of ensuring a secured old age security for them.

Ms. Anna Nyamekye, Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, said that cocoa was the back bone of Ghana's economy and cocoa farmers must enjoy their share of proceeds of the sale of the produce.

She challenged the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to come clear “since the people of Ghana would vote for Nana Akufo-Addo to continue with the good works of the Kufuor administration”.

Ms. Nyamekye said that the basic infrastructural development and the sound economic policies of the Kufour Government had given the nation a sound take off.

Mrs. Akufo-Addo was accompanied on the tour by Ms. Sophia Horner-Sam, Deputy Minister of railways, Ports and Harbours, Nana Kwadwo Kwakye, Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, and wives of leading members of NPP.
